Calmar, at one time, was a major railroad hub of the Milwaukee Road between Marquette and Mason City. Passenger trains ran on this line up until sometime in the 1960's. Today, Calmar serves as the crossroads for the northeast Iowa at the point where highways 150, 24 and 52 converge.
