This historic community has preserved a piece of the past that was once the existence of life in Iowa during the westward expansion. Fort Atkinson was built to keep the Winnebago Indians on Neutral Ground, a 40 mile wide strip of land established by the Treaty of 1830, parts of which still remain today.
